Chimney breast removal in Cheshire
Taking out a chimney breast can free up valuable floor space in a kitchen, living room or bedroom. When the breast is removed but the chimney above stays, the remaining masonry must be supported — usually on a steel beam designed by an engineer.

Steel gallows brackets were once common. Most building control bodies now expect engineer's calculations for any support, and a steel beam is usually the most reliable option.
Shared chimneys
In semis and terraces the chimney breast usually sits on the party wall and may share a stack with next door. A party wall notice is normally needed and the neighbour's flue must stay intact.
Removing the stack
Taking the chimney down below the roofline changes the outside of the house, so check with the council first if the property is listed or in a conservation area.
